Bethany C of E Junior School: Our History Curriculum Intent
At Bethany C of E Junior school, we aim to foster a deep understanding of historical events, figures and contexts that shape our world today. We strive to inspire a sense of identity and belonging by connecting students with their local history and heritage. We cultivate critical thinking and analytical skills through the exploration of diverse historical narratives and perspectives.
Our lessons will use artefacts to develop skills in historical enquiry, including sourcing, interpreting, and evaluating evidence. The curriculum is designed to be ambitious for all students, including those with SEND and disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring that all learners can access and engage with the content. Adaptations and scaffolding will be implemented to maintain high expectations while providing necessary support for diverse learning needs.
We aim to highlight key themes which we weave throughout our History curriculum:
Emphasising chronology to help students understand the sequence and significance of historical events.
Focusing on the theme of invasion to explore its transformative effects on societies.
Highlighting the influence of religion in historical contexts to foster understanding of cultural diversity and moral frameworks.
These key themes enable pupils to build upon their prior knowledge and make links across the History curriculum, thus increasing relevance and a depth of understanding.
