At Bethany C of E Junior School, we provide an engaging, inclusive and ambitious Computing curriculum that equips pupils with the knowledge, confidence and skills to thrive in education and the wider digital world with increasing independence. We teach children to be safe, responsible and discerning digital citizens through a strong emphasis on online safety, mental well-being and respectful behaviour in digital environments, grounded in the school values of Hope, Compassion and Courage. We ensure pupils can apply digital literacy, coding and presentation skills purposefully across a range of contexts, recognising the relevance and real-world application of Computing.

The curriculum allows pupils to revisit and deepen knowledge each year, with online safety taught at the start of every academic year and reinforced throughout the year. Progression moves from basic operational skills and safe use of technology in Year 3 towards greater independence, efficiency, accuracy and application across a wider range of software by Year 6. Coding knowledge develops from introducing core programming concepts to writing, testing and refining more complex programs, while digital literacy becomes increasingly purposeful and sophisticated.

All pupils have access to the full Computing curriculum through carefully sequenced teaching, adaptive support and appropriate scaffolding. Learning is designed to be accessible for pupils with varying prior experience, including those who may have limited access to technology outside school. Practical, visual and collaborative approaches support pupils with SEND, EAL and disadvantaged pupils to participate successfully and develop confidence. Digital tools and tasks are selected to promote success, independence and enjoyment for all learners.
